Can I stay in my house after a house fire?
1/20/2021 (Permalink)
It is not recommended to stay in your home after a house fire until it has been restored. Smoke caused from house fire is mostly carbon monoxide and cyanide. Most homes have many synthetic materials such as plastic and rubber. When these materials burn it puts off a toxin causing cyanide poisoning.
Inhaling smoke and ash particles can be harmful to humans and pets causing the nose, throat, and lungs to become irritated. Over time these irritations can turn into more serious health issues such as asthma.
To restore your home and contents to its original status you must have it professionally cleaned. Cleaning will depend on the materials and the amount of smoke or fire damage it has suffered.
