There are several common causes of water damage. Self inspections are a great way to prevent future water damage at your house. Below are some causes of water damage that can damage your home or business.
1. Damaged Plumbing such as cracked pipes, clogged pipes, frozen pipes, rusted pipes, rodent infestation, leaking HVAC units, appliance supply line, sewage overflow or backup, clogged rain gutters, and damaged roof.
It is easy to get busy and forget to check and maintain a home before the winter storm hits. However, doing a complete self-inspection on your home before winter could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars in the long run.

Check all your plumbing in the kitchen and in the bathroom under the sinks and the refrigerator water supply line. Make sure everything is tight and be sure there is no moisture around the seals.
Wrap your exterior pipes. Our winters can be unpredictable and sudden. When temperatures drop our exterior pipes can freeze causing a pipe to burst. A simple fix to a prevent an awfully expensive fix is worth taking the time to wrap your pipes.
Inspect your roof. Make sure that your valley and ridges are clear from debris such as leaves, branches, and acorns. Also check your rain gutters for debris throughout the winter.
