Asbestos Abatement

When SERVPRO of South Shasta County does restoration work on any building predating 1977 we make sure to implement an asbestos abatement. For years, asbestos was used as a form of insulation and was also a key component of many materials used throughout buildings. An example of some of these materials are roofing shingles, floor tiles and ceiling materials. Today, we know that asbestos is a carcinogen and that it is hazardous to our health. Asbestos is now avoided in construction, and the removal of asbestos can only be carried out by professionals.
Asbestos was officially deemed a carcinogen around the 1970’s and was later banned in 1977 from textured paint and patching compounds. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon today to find asbestos in houses made between 1930 and 1950, which is when it was regularly used in insulation. Today we now know that lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis are three major ailments that can be linked back to asbestos.
SERVPRO of South Shasta County can provide experienced professionals to test the suspected material. Our inspectors will be able inform you and our crew if there is asbestos present in the building by providing a written evaluation specifying where, how much, and how it can be mitigated.
