Turn off your power before cleanup

Locate your fuse box, turn off the main breaker along with each individual circuit breaker. This is especially important if your home is flooded.
Board up windows
Strong winds, and fallen trees. One of the most common damages a storm can cause is broken windows. As soon as possible you will want to board up any broken windows to secure your home. This will help keep out looters, rodents, and help to prevent any further weather damage. There are ways to board up your home that can potentially cause more harm, so be sure to consult a professional before taking on the task of boarding up your home.
Take pictures
As they say “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Before any cleanup ensues, be sure to take plenty of pictures of the damages caused. This will aid you greatly in filing an insurance claim. Taking plenty of photos is the best form of evidence to accurately show damages, and obtain the most from your insurance company.
